The Department of Urology at the Academic Hospital Cologne-Holweide, headed by Priv. Doz. Dr. med. Joachim Leißner, deals with the treatment of diseases and injuries of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, urethra and male reproductive organs. There are used modern conservative (medicated), endoscopic and open surgical techniques.

The Department of Urology at the Academic Hospital Cologne-Holweide is especially focused on the treatment of malignant diseases of the urogenital system. There is maintained tight cooperation with the working group of the urologic oncology of the German Cancer Society. The Academic Hospital Cologne-Holweide provides the following outpatient surgical interventions: varicocele treatment by means of vein sclerotherapy of the vas deferens, circumcision, sterilization by vasectomy, treatment of the vulvar (genital) warts, urethral caruncle removal. In case of surgery in children, one of the parents can stay in the same room with his/her child.  

The Academic Hospital Cologne-Holweide has two state-of-the-art operating rooms for open surgery and one operating room for transurethral (through the urinary tract) and endoscopic interventions.
