The Department of General and Visceral Surgery, under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Marco Niedergethmann, is dedicated to all aspects of modern surgery in Rüttenscheid and Steele – from standard basic care through to minimally invasive and complex oncological surgery.

The team of experienced general and visceral surgeons of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery covers the entire range of diagnosis and first-rate modern general and visceral surgery of diseases of the abdominal cavity (the entire gastrointestinal tract, liver, the gall bladder, pancreas gland, spleen, peritoneum), endocrine organs (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands), abdominal wall hernias (inguinal and abdominal wall hernias) plus soft tissues of the body. Treatment is always performed in close collaboration with the referring general practitioners and specialists, the other departments of the Alfried Krupp Hospital and cooperation partners in other clinics and medical facilities.

The Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the Alfried Krupp Hospital in Essen focuses on, among others, the malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum). The treatment is performed in accordance with state-of-the-art medical knowledge.
