The Gamma Knife Center Hannover is the first Associated Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery in Germany. The Gamma Knife can be used to remove benign and malignant tumors in the head with a single irradiation, which should not be bigger than 2.5 to 3 cm in size. The decisive factor is not only the size but also the relative location of the tumor to important brain structures. The treatment is extremely safe, highly accurate and exceedingly gentle.

The experts of Associated Clinic for Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery advice on the basis of radiological diagnosis and clinical findings, what kind of treatment will be used. It is to be decided, whether the stereotactic single-irradiation with Gamma Knife is the best form of therapy or fractionated irradiation with linear accelerator is already sufficient. In some cases, the operation is unavoidable. This refers especially to large tumors. The Gamma Knife has been proven to be effective in the treatment of the following diseases: metastases, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, neuromas of other cranial nerves, pituitary tumors, chondrosarcoma, arteriovenous malformations (AVM), glomus jugular tumors and trigeminal neuralgia.
