About the department

The Department of Oncology and Hematology at the Hospital Gummersbach Oberberg offers the comprehensive diagnostics and highly effective treatment of various types of cancers of the internal organs, as well as benign and malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system. The department is headed by Dr. med. Markus Sieber.

The department is part of the Cancer Center Oberberg, which has all the necessary resources and highly qualified personnel for the optimal treatment result. The department provides inpatient and outpatient treatment. The treatment regimens are developed for each patient individually, at weekly interdisciplinary tumor boards with the participation of surgeons, radiation therapists, chemotherapists and other specialists.

In most cases, the diagnosis cancer causes a tremendous emotional shock. Therefore, in addition to medical treatment, the department also provides psycho-oncological care. The psychologist actively works with the patient, using various techniques to stabilize his psycho-emotional state and mood for a positive treatment outcome. Moreover, the department uses art therapy.

Clinical practice is based on the use of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in accordance with the very latest scientific achievements. The doctors are guided by the requirements of the leading professional medical societies in Germany and USA, including the German Society for Hematology and Medical Oncology (DGHO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH). In addition, the department's specialists take part in various research projects aimed at the optimization of existing and development of innovative treatment methods.

Since the department does not carry out high-dose chemotherapy with bone marrow transplantation, it cooperates closely with the corresponding departments of university hospitals in Cologne, Bonn and Essen.

Dr. med. Markus Sieber has been the Head Physician of the Department of Oncology and Hematology at the Hospital Oberberg Gummersbach since 2005. From 2003 to 2005, Dr. Sieber led the oncology outpatient clinic at the Department of Internal Medicine with great success. Prior to this, the specialist held the position of Senior Physician in the Department of Oncology at the University Hospital Cologne, where he specialized in the treatment of lymphomas, leukemia, and other types of cancer. Dr. Sieber worked under the guidance of the world-famous oncologist, Prof. Volker Diehl.

As Head Physician in the Department of Oncology and Hematology at the Hospital Oberberg Gummersbach, he specializes in the treatment of cancer of the hematopoietic system as well as in medical care for patients with lung, colon, and pancreatic tumors.

The patient room includes an automatically adjustable bed, a bedside cabinet with a pull-out table, a wardrobe, a table and chairs for receiving visitors, a TV.
