The clinic of dermatology, allergology and venereology is one of the largest institutions of its kind in Germany. In 2014, the dermatology clinic for 55 beds (departments No. 41 and No. 86) and 25 partially inpatient treatment sites (DTK department) provided a full inpatient treatment to more than 2,200 patients, and partial hospital care to more than 6,000 persons. The outpatient care was provided to more than 10,000 patients (at the University outpatient clinic, emergency room and private clinic). The main directions of the clinical treatment are the inflammatory skin diseases (immune dermatology), allergy of the skin and mucosa and dermatooncology.

The clinic treats infants, children, adolescents and adults. The inpatient treatment of infants and children with skin diseases is provided in close cooperation with the clinics of the center for children and adolescent medicine.

At the forefront in the treatment of allergic diseases is, besides outpatient treatment, a partial inpatient and inpatient treatment with provocative diagnostics, e.g., for allergic reactions to environmental allergens (hay fever), food, medicine and insecticides, as well as specific immunotherapy of these diseases. It also explores the intolerance to implants and dental materials and conducts tests for contact eczema.

Besides immune dermatology, the patients are offered the innovative photomedical methods and laser therapy. The dermatooncology department has a dermatologic center of Hannover (HTZH) for treatment of skin tumors.
