Due to the interdisciplinary cooperation of highly professional doctors, the patients of the Department of Orthopedics under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. David Pfander have a dual benefit. Here are offered both conservative (non-surgical) treatments and complex operations, mostly minimally invasive – laparoscopic surgery.

The treatment concepts are based on a comprehensive approach: starting from the use of more conservative methods and up to physiotherapeutic procedures just the next day after the surgery. The main focus of the Department of Orthopedics at the Hospital Neuwerk “Maria von den Aposteln” under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. David Pfander is joint replacement surgery (endoprosthetic replacement), especially that of hip and knee. Only in this field there are annually performed over 800 operations.

Other focuses of the Department of Orthopedics at the Hospital Neuwerk “Maria von den Aposteln” under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. David Pfander include spine surgery, hand and foot surgery and arthroscopic surgery (endoscopic joint surgery knee, shoulder, hip and ankle. The total number of operations performed here makes up about 1,600 a year.

Due to a close collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics, here are treated common orthopedic diseases in children. These include hip joint development disorders, treatment of misaligned foot in children. Moreover, the range of services also covers non-surgical treatment of scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and other spinal diseases.

It is justly considered that congenital and acquired bone and joint diseases can be treated in the early stages. Thus, the percentage of severe diseases in adults is reduced.
