Department of Vascular Surgery

Kai Röttger

Dr. med.

Kai Röttger

Specialized in: vascular surgery

As a separate medical subject, vascular surgery includes conservative, endovascular and surgical treatment of the blood vessels. The vascular surgery physicians play a significant role for both doctors and patients. They specialize in the most gentle and long lasting surgical or endovascular treatment of acute and chronic diseases.

In order to find the best treatment for the patients, the condition of the apatients will be discussed in an interdisciplinary conference by the department of vascular surgery. The experts come from different medical fields (vascular surgeons, radiologists, neurologists, cardiologists and nephrologists) and work out together the best treatment options for each patient individually.

The department of vascular surgery can perform all modern vascular surgeries. It works closely with the Institute of Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology. In radiology, not only the diagnosis of vascular diseases, for example by MRI scans, CT scans or catheter vascular images, but also the treatments by Balloon Dilatation often in combination with so-called stents (stents) are performed in close cooperation with the vascular surgery. In diagnostics, the Department of Vascular Surgery is supported by the Department of Cardiology and Angiology in operational risk assessment and risk mitigation.

Typical surgeries are:

  • Carotid Artery / carotid
  • Aneurysm
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Varicose veins / varices
  • Dialysis access surgery
  • Pacemaker / Port
