Patients are offered the whole spectrum of modern orthopedics services, ranging from physiotherapy, through surgery, to rehabilitation. The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger von Eisenhart-Rothe. It also includes the Department of Sports Medicine (headed by Prof. Dr. A. Imhoff) and the Section for Pediatric Orthopedics (Dr. M. Salzmann).
The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine has extensive experience in the following fields:
- Artificial replacement joints (arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty)
- Treatment of the bones and soft tissues tumors
- Spinal column orthopedics
- Foot orthopedics
- Pediatric orthopedics
- Minimally invasive operations (e.g meniscus tears)
The Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger von Eisenhart-Rothe offers for patients modern and less invasive therapies utilizing the latest level of scientific knowledge. This includes implantation of artificial joints. This is achieved using on -cemented endoprostheses, which reproduce the natural anatomy. Thanks to this method, in particular, patients with arthrosis can be treated here.
A multidisciplinary expert team at the Center for Musculoskeletal Tumors work together on the treatment and planning. Therefore, an optimal treatment or a combination of different therapies can be chosen for every patient. This applies to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical removal of the tumor as well as the implantation.
Especially for the treatment of children the Department offers the following diagnosis and treatment options:
- Examinations of children for orthopedic diseases (e.g. hip dysplasia)
- Therapies of malpositions of the limbs in children
- Treatment of the aseptic necroses of the bones (e.g. Morbus Perthes)
- Interdisciplinary therapies of the bone and soft tissue tumors
- Gait analysis at the gait assessment laboratory
- Treatment of the infantile cerebral palsy
Back pain is one of the most frequently occurring orthopedic problems. It can be caused by various diseases such as rheumatism, inflammations or malpositions. The Department studies the origin of pain and offers patients appropriate therapies.
These include amoungst other things, the following options:
- Vertebral replacement
- Minimally invasive procedures
- Modern pain therapy in collaboration with the interdisciplinary outpatient center for pain at the university hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar
A new method for orthopedics is used in case of painful bone calcifications: the shockwave therapy. This therapy allows the patient to avoid surgery and destroy the calcific deposits. Therefore, the pain can be totally eliminated. The entire operations are conducted in the department on all joints by taking into account the latest biomechanical findings, applying the latest surgery techniques as well as computer-aided planning. For example, the use of arthroscopy allows conducting minimally invasive surgeries on all joints. It requires an approximately 5mm incision, through which a camera and, if necessary, instruments are inserted into the joint.
