diagnostic: Aplastic anemia. Diagnostic
Bone marrow transplantation is the optimal treatment for aplastic anemia, but it is not always possible to find a compatible donor quickly. In these cases, the transfusion therapy in combination with drugs eliminating the side effects of the blood transfusion are used to maintain the patient’s condition. An adequate selection scheme of conservative treatment allows stabilizing the patient's condition in 73% cases.
Aplastic Anemia Diagnostics
The first visit to the clinic includes examination, case history collection and development of a plan of general clinical and special examination. To establish the diagnosis, the following is prescribed:
- complete blood count and urinalysis;
- blood chemistry;
- blood type;
- bone marrow aspiration biopsy (required to map a myelogram);
- ultrasound, CT, MRI;
- X-rays of the skull is conducted for differential diagnostics of the thymus tumor.
Transfusion Therapy in Combination with Deferoxamine
Pronounced hematopoiesis depression necessitates the transfusion of compatible donated blood. This treatment allows improving the patient's condition quickly and preventing serious dysfunction of the vital organs. However, regular blood transfusion repetition threatens the development of severe hemosiderosis. To alleviate the hemosiderosis symptoms, deferoxamine is administered in conjunction with blood transfusion. This tactics makes it possible to reduce the risk of complications of blood transfusions and improve the patient's condition.
Blood transfusion is performed in a hospital, where the patient receives nursing services and is observed by a professional. After receipt of further recommendations, the patient continues outpatient treatment.Hide
