Diagnostics in Germany

German hospitals are distinguished by their high diagnostic accuracy. Doctors have state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal. Here they use the following diagnostic methods:

  • Laboratory diagnostic methods (hormone, infection tests);
  • Hysterosalpingography;
  • Pelvic and breast ultrasound;
  • Pelvic MRI;
  • Endometrial biopsy;
  • Colposcopy;
  • Hysteroscopy;
  • Laparoscopy.

For the diagnostics of gynecological diseases, hospitals admit patients who have symptoms and require an accurate diagnosis. German clinics are also often visited by women who do not have signs of pathology. They undergo a gynecological or oncological screening, which is a health check-up to detect diseases at an early stage. Diagnostics in Germany is well organized – a comprehensive examination takes only 2-3 days.

It is quite common that gynecology clinics in Germany are visited by patients whose own doctors of their native country cannot determine the cause of the pathology.  Prior to their check-up in Germany, their doctors have often made a strange syndromic diagnosis, such as uterine bleeding of unknown origin, infertility of unknown origin, etc. This means that the patient has symptoms, but no one knows why they appeared. In the vast majority of cases, doctors in German hospitals manage to establish the cause of the disease and then eliminate it.

Treatment in Germany

Basically, gynecological treatment in Germany is provided to women with severe and difficult-to-treat diseases of the reproductive system. Some foreign patients are looking for safety and less invasive surgery.

Here are the main diseases with which women go to hospitals in Germany with:

Oncology. Gynecology doctors in Germany successfully deal with the treatment of cervical, endometrial, ovarian, and vaginal cancers. German clinics perform modern surgical interventions, sometimes minimally invasive (with a laparoscopic approach). The best clinics perform operations using robotic systems. In a case of an advanced tumor process, doctors perform cytoreductive surgery and supplement it with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. To treat some tumors, German clinics can perform organ-preserving surgery. These allow a woman not only to recover from cancer, but also to preserve her reproductive function so that in the future she can become pregnant and give birth to a child.

Reproductology. A lot of patients seek medical help for female infertility. In this condition, a qualitative diagnostic examination is no less important than the treatment. After determining the cause of impaired fertility, it is eliminated or compensated, if possible. Only a short antibacterial or hormone treatment is often sufficient for success. Whenever required, doctors perform minimally invasive operations to restore fallopian tube patency or dissect intrauterine adhesions.

Assisted reproductive technology. Sometimes it is necessary to resort to IVF and other reproductive technology for fertility treatment. The effectiveness of these procedures in German hospitals is very high: the probability of pregnancy per embryo transfer reaches 60%. Reproductive Medicine Centers use ICSI, PICSI, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, assisted hatching, testicular biopsy, germ cell cryopreservation and many other procedures, with which, a married couple can quickly solve a problem of infertility.

Uterine fibroids. This condition is considered one of the most common diseases in women. Gynecological treatment in Germany includes the use of modern surgical interventions for myomatous node removal: hysteroscopic (access through the uterus) and laparoscopic (access through small incisions on the abdomen). Gynecologists also use a non-surgical method of treatment – uterine artery embolization. After closing the lumen of the uterine arteries, the blood supply to the fibroids is disrupted, as a result of which, they gradually decrease in size over several months.

Endometriosis. This is a severe disease that leads to chronic pain and infertility. In Germany, it is treated as minimally invasively as possible. Endometriotic foci in the reproductive system and other organs are removed or evaporated with a laser.

Benign ovarian masses. In Germany, cysts and benign tumors are quickly removed using minimally invasive techniques. Recovery after such operations is easy and takes only a few days.

Aesthetic gynecology. German hospitals offer services for the improvement of the condition of the skin of the external genitalia, narrowing of the vagina, and restoring the hymen. Vaginal rejuvenation procedures are performed as well.

Developmental abnormalities of the female reproductive system.  German doctors perform complex operations to restore the normal anatomical structure of the urogenital system. After these operations, the woman no longer has most of the previous symptoms. With some diseases, it is possible to restore fertility: it becomes possible to conceive, carry a pregnancy and give birth through the natural birth canal.

Gynecology clinics in Germany deal with the treatment of even the most severe, long-term, and rare diseases. Whenever possible, non-surgical treatments are used. If there is a need for a surgical intervention, then it is usually performed using a minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic or hysteroscopic).
