The Department of Neurosurgery is the center of excellence in research and patient care. The department consists of two sections: the Section of General Neurosurgery specializing in the treatment of diseases of the nervous system and the Section of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.
The Department with its annual 2,600 operations and 3,000 inpatients is one of the largest neurosurgery centers in Germany. Special focuses of the Department include vascular neurosurgery, tumor, skull base and pituitary surgery, spinal surgery, epilepsy surgery as well as functional and pediatric neurosurgery.
In the Department of Neurosurgery at the Hannover Medical School complex treatment of nervous system diseases is performed by using the most advanced microneurosurgical, endoscopic, stereotactic and interventional treatment methods.
