Three departments at the University Hospital Aachen are responsible for pediatrics: Department of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery. The Department of Pediatrics is headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Norbert Wagner. The Department of Pediatrics includes the following sections: the section of Neonatology and Intensive Care Medicine, Hematology/ Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant as well as Pediatric Neurology and Center for Social Pediatrics.

The outpatient treatment of private pediatricians and family doctors is completed by the pediatric polyclinic of the Department of Pediatrics at the University Hospital Aachen. The highly qualified doctors under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Norbert Wagner can use all diagnostic capabilities of a big university hospital and have an exceptional experience in the treatment of rare and severe chronic diseases. 

The Center for Social Pediatrics of the Department of Pediatrics at the University Hospital Aachen, where children and adolescents up to 17 are treated, specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents with the following diseases: 

  • Increased risk of disability
  • Severe multiple disabilities
  • Impaired physical, speech, social and spiritual development
  • Neurological disorders (such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, epilepsies and neuromuscular diseases)
  • Prematurity
  • Congenital conditions and syndromes
  • Impaired attention and hyperactivity
  • Behavioral disorders caused by physical disease or disability
  • Violation in the process of overcoming the diseases
  • Chronic diseases

Furthermore, the Department of Pediatrics under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Norbert Wagner together with the Department of Pediatric Heart Surgery under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Jaime Vázquez-Jiménez form the Pediatric Cardiology Center. The joint department provides treatment to all children with heart diseases, including the children, who need heart surgery.

Accommodation in hospital

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
