About the department keyboard_arrow_down

The Department of Urology at the University Hospital Aachen under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Thomas-Alexander Vögeli deals with the treatment of all kidney and urinary tract diseases as well as the diseases of all male reproductive organs. Altogether 16 doctors and 25 nurses work in the Department. They provide medical care in the Department of Urology and in the polyclinic.

The main activity areas of the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Aachen under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Thomas-Alexander Vögeli are medical and surgical treatments of urological tumors (cancer of adrenal glands, kidneys, bladder and urinary tracts, prostate, testis, and penis) minimally invasive treatment of ureter sickness and kidney stones, pediatric urology, therapy against incontinence and reconstructive surgery of the urogenital tract. Within the framework of surgical treatment, the Department carries out all kinds of open operative treatments, laparoscopic and DaVinci robot-assisted operations. There are provided all forms of urinary catheterization after radical cystectomy: ileum conduit, continent pouch, orthotopic neobladder, sigma-rectum pouch and so on. Apart from all the above-mentioned activity areas, the Department of Urology provides both inpatient and outpatient hospital care of all urinary diseases. Moreover, the Department has a top position in Germany in the field of breast and prostate cancer treatment.

The treatment and procedures for all patients, especially for oncologic patients, are discussed on the interdisciplinary level (i.e. with all involved groups of specialists) and the decisions on the individual treatment programs for all patients are made in the same way as well. The introduction of a patient within the oncology council and discussion with radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, specialists of nuclear and palliative medicine as well as the specialists of private practices can be considered to be a cornerstone of the so-called translational medicine. The transfer of the available data and recent achievements for the patient treatment plays a key role in translational medicine.

Furthermore, the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Aachen specializes in pediatric urology as well. Together with the colleagues from the pediatric department, the “Pediatric Urology” department provides treatment to children with urologic diseases.

The stated objective of all staff of the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Aachen under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Thomas-Alexander Vögeli is to put first humanity and patient regardless of all opportunities of modern medicine.
