About the department keyboard_arrow_down

The Department of Plastic, Hand and Burn Surgery at the University Hospital Aachen under the direction of Univ.- Prof. Dr. Dr. Prof. h.c. mult. Norbert Pallua specializes in four areas: reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, hand surgery and burn surgery. The range of services at the Department of Plastic, Hand and Burn Surgery covers all modern plastic and aesthetic surgery, including free tissue transfer. A particular focus is on the surgery of skin tumors and soft tissues (incl. sarcomas), aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of female breast.

Reconstructive surgery means form and functional recovery of the body. It includes big defects of skin and tissues, for example, after the removal of tumors or after the accidents, distortion of skin with scars, loss of breast after cancer as well as paralysis of facial and hand nerves. Due to a number of available options, various operational techniques are used after the comprehensive counseling. The range of these techniques includes those from laser treatment of prominent scars and up to microsurgical tissue transplants during the breast reconstruction. The Department of Plastic, Hand and Burn Surgery at the University Hospital Aachen is distinguished due to its close cooperation with other specialties, intensive aftercare and wide experience. Other focus is reconstructive surgery of head and neck after burns and removal of tumors by means of the specially developed operational technique.

As for the aesthetic surgery of face and neck, a special attention is paid to eyelid and face lifting as well as lipofilling. Moreover, the range of services also covers complex hand surgery with a 24-hour replantation service. The plastic surgical reconstruction of all burn scars and problematic wounds also belongs to the focuses of the Department of Plastic, Hand and Burn Surgery under the direction of Univ.- Prof. Dr. Dr. Prof. h.c. mult.
