The Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at the University Hospital Aachen under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Ulf Peter Neumann is one of the biggest visceral surgery centers in North Rhine-Westphalia. The priority area is oncologic visceral surgery with a special competence in the field of liver and pancreas. The Department with 30 health professionals performs about 3,000 operations on both inpatient and outpatient basis every year.
Since 01.03.2010 Prof. Dr. Ulf Peter Neumann has taken over the management of the Department. He promoted the development of oncologic visceral surgery and appearance of such fields as hepatobiliary surgery, transplant and minimally invasive surgery in Aachen. The Department of Surgery at the University Hospital Aachen pays a particular attention to the treatment of all benign and malignant diseases of the liver, biliary tracts, pancreas, esophagus, gastrointestinal tract and other endocrine organs.
In addition to these treatments, the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at the University Hospital Aachen, headed by Prof. Dr. Ulf Peter Neumann, offers the entire spectrum of cancer surgery as well as the treatment of benign diseases. The other special focus of work is the liver transplant program, which has recently developed in the University Hospital Aachen. According to this program, the Department has already performed more than 150 successful liver transplants since the summer of 2010.
The Department is the Comprehensive Center for Coloproctology of the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV). Furthermore, in cooperation with other departments, there was created the Surgery Center for the patients with serious obesity.
Due to the optimal operation planning and special surgical techniques, not only the tumors, which have recently been considered to be inoperable, can be removed. Particularly, a patient receives minimized operative risks, injuries and blood loss. The highly qualified doctors of the Department regularly perform certain operations, such as surgery of esophagus, stomach, liver, and pancreas. The studies prove that the centers with such an amount of operations, as the University Hospital Aachen, has, not only achieve better results but also provide a quite lower risk of complications for the patients.

Accommodation in hospital
The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.
Meals and Menus
The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.

Christian priests are available for the patients at any time. Representatives of other religions may be requested at any time.
Your companion may stay with you in your room or at a hotel of your choice during the fixed program.
