The medical priority of the Department of Internal Medicine II - Gastroenterology and Hepatology is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of digestive organs. The functions of esophagus, stomach, duodenum and small intestine, large intestine, liver, biliary tract and pancreas can be disrupted by a variety of diseases. Symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, blood in the stool, dysphagia, weight loss, jaundice are indications which should be taken seriously. The Department is “often recommended” according to the Focus List of Specialist Clinics for Colon Cancer 2016.

As a gastroenterology center, the department can provide patients with a large variety of highly specialized modern examination and treatment procedures. Therefore, the diseases can be safely and gently diagnosed or treated. It is the concern of all employees to regard patients as humans with their individual questions, fears and wishes even in the age of highly specialized technical medicine.
