University Hospital Cologne
Department of Pediatric Cardiology (26183)
Specialized in: pediatric cardiology
The Department of Pediatric Cardiology at the University Hospital Cologne under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Konrad Brockmeier ranks among the leading German departments providing treatment of cardiac arrhythmia in сhildren. The department treats about 5,000 outpatients and about 800 inpatients every year.
The department is mainly focused on the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases provided by the doctors specializing in pediatric cardiac surgery. Today, many heart diseases can be treated minimally invasively in the department's catheterization lab. In case of severe congenital heart defects, the department more and more uses combined interventions - the so-called hybrid technique. In this case, a cardiac surgeon, a pediatric cardiologist or vascular surgeon perform the surgery together. To implement this hybrid technique, the Heart Center was equipped with a special operating room, which contains the catheterization lab.
The highly qualified team of doctors and medical staff strive to make the patients' hospital stay in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology as pleasant as possible and to provide round-the-clock comprehensive care adapted to the patient's needs.
