The Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Cologne under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Gereon Fink meets the highest standards in medical care, education and academic science. With 100 beds in the specialized units, the department covers the entire spectrum of diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

According to the Focus magazine rating of 2017, the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital Cologne ranks among the top German departments specializing in the treatment of Parkinson's disease!

The Department of Neurology specializes in the following:

  • Neurological intensive care
  • Stroke with the specialized treatment in the specialized Stroke Unit, early neurological rehabilitation of strokes and other cerebrovascular diseases
  • Treatment of motor disorders, in particular special techniques for Parkinson’s disease, for example, deep brain stimulation or apomorphine
  • Neuroimmunological disorders, especially multiple sclerosis
  • Polyneuropathies, in particular CIDP, MMN and other inflammatory neuropathies
  • Treatment of brain tumors

Within the framework of the outpatient facility, the department includes specialized outpatient facilities specializing in the following medical focuses:

  • Neuro-oncology (brain tumors)
  • Neuromuscular diseases
  • Botulinum toxin therapy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Rare neuroimmunological diseases
  • Parkinson's disease and other motor disorders
  • Deep brain stimulation

The diagnosis and treatment of all neurological disorders are carried out on an inpatient basis. In addition to the general department, there is the private Department of Neurological Intensive Care and the national certified Stroke Unit for providing specialized medical care. Moreover, the Department of Neurology has the Department of Early Rehabilitation for the patients suffering from neurological and neurosurgical disorders.

The range of inpatient services covers both diagnosis and treatment of the following diseases:

  • Acute stroke (ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage), early rehabilitation of the patients with neurological and neurosurgical disorders, in particular cerebrovascular diseases
  • Motor disorders, in particular Parkinson’s diseases, innovative therapies for the most severe Parkinson's syndrome with deep brain stimulation, apomorphine and Duodopa pump therapy
  • Dementia diagnosis
  • Multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological disorders
