The Department I for Internal Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne deals with the treatment of patients with various internal diseases.

This includes in particular the following fields:

  • Oncology
  • Hematology
  • Clinical infectology
  • Clinical immunology
  • Hemostasis
  • Intensive care

The Department combines both clinical and research activities within these disciplines. Thus, this fact enables the provision of treatment according to the latest scientific findings and promotion of the international recognition.

The Department I of Internal Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Hallek, is the Comprehensive Treatment Center for the patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphatic leukemia (ALL) as well as myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). However, the Department I of Internal Medicine offers the entire spectrum of services from high-quality diagnosis up to all the scientifically proven innovative therapies and up to the competent and thorough palliative treatment. Due to these achievements, the Department I of Internal Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany ranks among the largest centers of this kind.

Apart from the treatment of malignant blood diseases (chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)), myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and acute leukemias (AML and ALL), the specialization field of the Department I of Internal Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Michael Hallek, includes the treatment of the following diseases:

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
