Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Thomas Krieg, Direktor der Klinik für Dermatologie und Venerologie der Uniklinik Köln, wurde 1949 in Büderich, Kreis Grevenbroich geboren. Er studierte in Berlin Humanmedizin. Verschiedene Stipendien führten ihn an Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen im In- und Ausland, so zum Beispiel an das Institute for Cell Genetics in Stockholm oder das National Cancer Institute Bethesda/USA. 1982 habilitierte er sich für Dermatologie und Venerologie an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. 1991 folgte er dem Ruf der Uniklinik Köln. Hier leitet er seit 1995 als Geschäftsführer auch das Zentrum für Molekulare Medizin.

Zu den Hauptforschungsgebieten Professor Kriegs gehören die allgemeine Dermatologie und Venerologie, Bindegewebserkrankungen, blasenbildende Erkrankungen, Autoimmunerkrankungen, Wundheilungsstörungen, Zellbiologie und die Bindegewebsforschung. Seine wissenschaftliche Arbeit ist häufig durch Preise und Auszeichnungen gewürdigt worden. So erhielt Professor Krieg den Dr. Heinz-Karger-Preis, den Gottron-Just-Preis, die Otto-Hahn-Medaille, den Bill Reed Award, den Presidents Award und den Max-Planck-Forschungspreis.

Professor Krieg ist Ehrenmitglied der Polnischen und der Ungarischen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft sowie Mitglied der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina. Die Semmelweis Universität Budapest verlieh ihm die Ehrendoktorwürde. Zudem ist er für viele Zeitschriften tätig, so gab er zum Beispiel die Zeitschrift für Haut- und Geschlechtskrankeiten heraus und war Section-Editor der J. Investigative Dermatology und European Editor der Wound Repair and Regeneration.

The Department and Polyclinic of Dermatology and Venereology of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Thomas Krieg, represents the field of Dermatovenereology in research, teaching and patient care. These comprise diseases of skin including the visible mucous membranes and the so-called skin appendages (e.g. hair or nails).

Typical diseases are neurodermatitis, psoriasis or skin tumors (e.g. white or black skin cancer), as well as allergies, bullous diseases, infections of skin or mucous membranes caused by viruses, bacteria or fungi. The sexually transmitted diseases, venous diseases and chronic wounds and ulcers are the subject of our field as well. The diagnosis and treatment are based on the complex approach as numerous diseases can affect the skin as well as the connective tissue diseases and other disorders of the immune system.

The Department and Polyclinic of Dermatology and Venereology of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Thomas Krieg, include one polyclinic with the special outpatient facilities, operating rooms as well as the outpatient department. All together, the inpatient department contains 56 beds in both single and double wards. The Department of Dermatology and Venereology of the University Hospital Cologne was successfully certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 standard by the Certification Society TÜV Süd in September 2010. Moreover, the Department is also certified as the “Skin Tumor Center“ by the German Cancer Society.

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
