Department of Orthopedics

The Department of Orthopedics at the University Hospital Dusseldorf offers all kinds of diagnostic procedures and therapeutic methods for the treatment of acute, acquired degenerative diseases and posttraumatic defects. There is a special interest in pediatric orthopedics, spine diseases, sports medicine and in joint preserving as well as joint replacing procedures. The head of the Department is Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Krauspe.

The diagnostic methods of the Department at the University Hospital Dusseldorf include sonography,  PC-based digital X-ray technology, instrumented motion and gate analysis. Moreover, for outpatient care the Institute of X-ray Diagnosis has interventional radiological techniques as well as tomographic technology. 

Many clinical cases require surgery and the University Hospital Dusseldorf uses advanced technology to provide it. The range of surgical services of the Department of Orthopedics under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Krauspe includes surgical correction of spinal deformities and degenerative diseases, joint preserving osteotomy, as well as partial or total joint replacement, endoprosthesis replacement of hip, knee, shoulder, foot and the first metatarsophalageal joint. According to the Focus magazine rating of 2017, the Department of Orthopedics at the University Hospital Dusseldorf ranks among the top German departments specializing in endoprosthetics!

In addition there is an active work to promote further sparing arthroscopic surgical techniques. A team of experts under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Rüdiger Krauspe performs numerous complex operations with the use of the Computer Assisted Operation System (CAOS).
