The Düsseldorf clinic treats all diseases of the eye - from glaucoma to retinal detachment. In this respect, the clinic has specialised mainly on particularly difficult courses of illness. The eye clinic enjoys an international reputation in its special field of corneal transplantations. Every year, it performs around 300 corneal transplantations and is thus the largest transplantation centre in Germany.
Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics
To support women during pregnancy and the perinatal period is one of the central tasks of our department of obstetrics and gynecology with an emphasis on support of risk pregnancies. During the prenatal period our hospital offers all modern procedures of prenatal diagnostics and intrauterine therapy. We have a close cooperation with related disciplines such as human genetics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric urology and pediatric surgery.
Department of Otolaryngology
The area of activity of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology encompasses the diagnosis, the conservative and surgical treatment, as well as the prevention and rehabilitation of all diseases of the ear and the vestibular organ, the nose, the paranasal sinuses, the throat and the larynx, the salivary glands, the lymphatic system of the head and neck, the upper aero-digestive tract, and the cranial nerves of the head and neck.
Department of Dermatology
The Department of Dermatology of the Düsseldorf University Hospital focuses on comprehensive area of dermatological diseases. Emphasis is on the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune skin diseases such as eczema and psoriasis, the treatment of skin tumors with special consideration of malignant melanoma as well as the diagnosis and treatment of allergies.

The department of General-, Visceral- and Pediatric Surgery of the Düseldorf University Hospital provides the diagnosis and treatment of all general, visceral and thoracic surgical diseases and also the general and thoracic surgical care of emergency for polytrauma patients. The clinical area Pediatric Surgery covers comprehensive general surgical care of children diseases and surgical interventions. The emphasis here is the surgical treatment of malignant tumors. In addition to standard surgical techniques, innovative treatment concepts are also applied in this area.
Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology
The Department of Endocrinology and Diabetology works on diseases of the hormone producing glands. Within the field of endocrinology, the Department has specialized in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, of adrenal gland deficiencies, thyroid and pituitary diseases, hormone induced infertility in men and disorders of bone metabolism. The Department has a specialist outpatient clinic for the treatment of thyroid disorders.
Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectiology
The clinic covers a broad variety of medical areas: these include diagnostic investigation and therapy of diseases of the liver, the gastrointestinal tract, the pancreas as well as the treatment of gastrointestinal (gastric, intestinal and pancreatic) tumours and liver cancer. High-tech endoscopy, sonography and gastrointestinal function tests are part of the core competence.
Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
The Department of vascular and endovascular surgery of the Düsseldorf university hospital has developed into a national and international centre for vascular medical research. The Kidney transplantation has been a strong point of the department since 1974.
Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology
In this clinic everything revolves around cancer diseases. The key areas of treatment are malignant diseases of the blood, the bone marrow and the lymph nodes. This includes, for example, leukaemia, diseases of the haematogenic cells in the bone marrow. Patients suffering from acute leukaemia come to the university clinic from the overall Düsseldorf area, because the necessary specialised knowledge and the technical equipment for an effective treatment are only available here.
Department of Cardiology, Pneumology and Angiology
The Department of Cardiology, Pneumology and Angiology at the University Hospital Dusseldorf has an interdisciplinary team of nationally and internationally recognized experts which specialised in the diagnosis and treatment of the four main areas of cardiology, namely coronary, myocardial fully reflect structural and arrhythmogenic diseases.

Department of Oral, Maxillary and Plasitic Facial Surgery
The Department of Oral, Maxillary and Plasitic Facial Surgery is one of Germany’s oldest clinics in this specific discipline and consequently has a reputation which is already firmly established beyond the region’s boundaries. The range of surgical work performed by the Düsseldorf surgeons encompasses the entire range of oral, maxillary, mandibular and facial surgery, including injuries resulting from accidents in the maxillofacial area, malpositions in the mandibular and maxillary area (dysgnathiae), tumours in the oral cavity and outer facial skin, cleft lip face palates and other congenital deformities. The Clinic’s field of activities also includes the provision of dental implants and the field of aesthetic surgery.
Department of Neurosurgery
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Clinic of Düsseldorf was founded more than half a century ago and is one of the oldest neurosurgical departments in the world. In 1947, Prof. Hans Kuhlendahl, its first director, laid the foundation for modern neurosurgery.
Department of Nephrology
Responsibilities of the Department of Nephrology at the University Hospital Dusseldorf is the treatment of all acute and chronic kidney disease, including systemic diseases with renal involvement as well as the pre- and post-treatment of patients with renal transplantation. Department of Neurology
The Department of Neurology is nationally and internationally recognized as a center of excellence in neurology. This medical specialty deals with diseases of the brain, the spinal cord, the peripheral nervous system and the muscles. Neurological disorders include e.g. stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic/cerebral bleeds) , multiple sclerosis, meningitis, movement disorders, myasthenia gravis, neuropathies, disk herniation, epilepsy, headaches and brain tumors. Also diseases associated with dementia like Alzheimer`s disease and those caused by degeneration of the nervous system, such as Parkinson`s disease are diagnosed and treated.
Department of Urology
Prof. Dr. med. Peter Albers has been leading the department of urology since 1. August 2008. Albers and his specialised doctors have applied new Procedures in diagnosis an therapy.
These include the increasing use of "keyhole surgery" in urological tumor surgery and modernization in diagnosis and treatment of kidney stone disease. Albers was the director of the Urology Clinic of the Klinikum Kassel ( also a house of maximum care), until his move to Dusseldorf. He is an expert in large urological tumor surgery and a renowned scientist in the field of uro-oncology.
Department of General Pediatrics, Neonatology and Pediatric Cardiology
The Department of General Pediatrics has a wide range of activities and provides care for all general paediatric conditions. Children of all age groups and adolescents up to 18 years of age are being looked after. The department’s main focus is in the areas of metabolic medicine, infectious diseases, neurology and neonatology. There is particular expertise in the care of children with diabetes mellitus, gastrointestinal, hepatological and endocrinological diseases.

The Clinic of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Immunology covers the complete spectrum of malignant tumors in childhood and adolescence as well as hematologic disorders, inborn or acquired immunodeficiency and rheumatoid disease.
