The Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the University Hospital Frankfurt deals with the treatment of all general and visceral surgical diseases and performs surgery to transplant liver, kidney and pancreas. The head of the Department of General and Visceral Surgery is Professor Dr. med. Wolf O. Bechstein. As the University Bowel Cancer Center and the Pancreas Cancer Center, the Department is included into the Interdisciplinary University Cancer Center (UCT) and offers the best multidisciplinary, individualized treatment with the use of all diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities.

One of the focuses of the Department at the University Hospital Frankfurt is liver surgery, liver metastasis as well as liver transplant. Moreover, the Department also specializes in surgery of the esophagus and stomach as well as surgery of the endocrine organs, coloproctology and hernia surgery. The special focuses are complex surgical problems of the patients with a long medical history. In such cases, a highly qualified team of doctors under the direction of Professor Dr. med. Wolf O. Bechstein makes every effort to develop an optimal strategy for Your treatment within an interdisciplinary approach.

The focuses of the Department at the University Hospital Frankfurt are:

  • Endocrine surgery: surgical treatment and operations on the endocrine organs (thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal gland, esophagus)
  • Visceral surgery: diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Oncologic surgery: diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases
  • Transplantation surgery: treatment of diseases by means of donor organ transplants

About hospital

The University Hospital Frankfurt is a part of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. The hospital with rich traditions was founded in 1914 and is a famous one in Germany. Annually about 50,000 inpatients and 220,000 outpatients are treated in this hospital. The main objective of 32 specialized departments and clinical and theoretical institutes is to provide the best possible patient care.

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
