The team of doctors of the Department under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Kurt Hecher works hand in hand with the Department of Neonatology, Anesthesia, Pediatric Surgery, Infectology and Genetics: a daily agenda includes interdisciplinary conferences, where doctors discuss specific patients’ cases at the interdisciplinary level. Furthermore, if necessary, for considering some specific cases there are formed multidisciplinary expert teams. Since the teams have all the latest technology, they provide the best care of both mother and child.

  • Prenatal medicine: care of the high-risk pregnancies, incl.:
    • The Department has an extensive experience in care of the women with severe (previous) diseases, e.g. congenital or acquired heart diseases or organ transplants
    • The so-called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), when identical twins share the placenta, is treated by means of laser therapy. The patients from all over the world, including Scandinavian countries, come to the Department to undergo this kind of therapy. 
  • Diagnosis during pregnancy, delivery and in the postpartum period
    • Routine ultrasound screening (first trimester screening, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), amniocentesis, ultrasound (elimination of pathologies),
    • Fetal imaging (MRI)
