The Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital consists of two separate units. The chief physician of the Department is Prof. Dr. med. Volker Ewerbeck. The focus of the unit in Neuenheimer Feld area is interdisciplinary treatment of the patients with multiple injuries and polytraumas. Moreover, the Department offers all existing possibilities of comprehensive outpatient and inpatient treatment for all injuries of the musculoskeletal system.

The focus of the unit in Schlierbach area is orthopaedics, trauma surgery and paraplegiology. Due to an active cooperation of both units, the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital provides the high-class comprehensive medical care of the ever-increasing number of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The active clinical activity of the Department is completed by numerous specialized consultations. In particular, patients with deformities after injuries or malunions can receive a comprehensive consultation. Furthermore, there are developed individual, customized treatment plans for every patient within the consultations.

The range of services of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Volker Ewerbeck includes:

Accommodation in hospital

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
