The Department of Dermatology at the Heidelberg University Hospital is a national recognized Center for Oncological Dermatology. It is the first Department of Dermatology in Germany, which was awarded an official high-quality mark of the certified Skin Cancer Center. The chief physician of the Department is Prof. Dr. med. Alexander Enk. The Department includes numerous specialized units, such as general outpatient unit, the outpatient unit for allergy treatment, andrological, immunological, oncological and phlebological outpatient units as well as the Laser Medicine and Aesthetics Center. The Department covers a wide range of dermatology.

The Skin Cancer Center Heidelberg has a variety of specialized departments: department of surgery, department of phototherapy, training center, and specialized histological laboratory. They are all located in the same building. Furthermore, the patients with skin cancer receive a necessary care on consultations. The Center is integrated into the National Cancer Center (NCT) and develops individual treatment plans for every patient together with other partners of the Heidelberg University Hospital. The experts from various fields are involved into the development of these treatment plans. The main objective of the Center is to provide multidisciplinary, individual medical care.

The range of clinical services of the Department of Dermatology at the Heidelberg University Hospital under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Alexander Enk includes:

  • Malignant melanomas (black skin cancer)
  • Squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell skin carcinoma (white skin cancer)
  • Mycosis fungicides and other skin lymphomas
  • Merkel cell carcinoma
  • Dermatofibrosarcoma
  • Angiosarcomas and other rare skin tumors
  • Consultations for the patients after organ transplants and chronic suppressed immunity
