Being the only University Hospital in Thuringia the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Plastic Surgery, under the lead of Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Schultze-Mosgau, covers the whole range of highly qualified procedures for diagnosis and therapy of all diseases associated with this area. The services offered by the department include primary and secondary facial trauma care, including complex reconstruction of hard and soft tissue as well as temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction, the entire cancer surgery including functional and esthetic reconstruction employing microvascular tissue transfer, treatment of cleft lip and palate patients as well as craniofacial malformations, orthognathic surgery and oral surgery. In cooperation with specialists of other areas, the physicians of the department provide interdisciplinary diagnostic services, treatment and treatment planning to in- and out-patients.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Plastic Surgery, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Schultze-Mosgau, has a quality management system in such as inpatient/ outpatient clinic, policlinic as well as research and education and is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 since 2009.

The focal areas are:

  • Skull injury: reconstruction of hard and soft tissues, including temporo mandibular joint (TMJ) reconstruction
  • Head and neck tumors: resection and plastic reconstruction by means of microsurgical transplantation of a bone, skin and connective tissue
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery: cleft lip and palate; craniofacial malformations; orthognathic surgery/dysgnathia
  • Preprosthetic surgery/implantology

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
