The Section of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery that is part of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Münster. Prof. Dr. med. Edward Malec has been heading the Section since 1 January, 2013. Prof. Dr. med. Edward Malec, who has been a new chief physician of the Section of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery for already a few years, is in the FOCUS list of TOP German physicians. Over the years, Mr. professor has worked with the renowned professors Willian Norwood and Aldo Castaneda in the USA and Switzerland. His achievements were distinguished with numerous awards and publications. 

The Section of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery is an independent unit within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Münster. The Section offers the whole range of cardiac surgery for newborns, infants and children.  

The new specialized Section maintains a close collaboration with the Departments of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, Congenital (EMAH) and Acquired Heart Defects as well as the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospital Münster. An interdisciplinary medical team under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Edward Malec treats children and adults with congenital heart defects.
