The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Tubingen covers the full range of neurosurgical interventions. These include surgery of brain cancer and spinal cord tumor in children and adults, skull base and pituitary surgery, treatment of neurofibromatosis, vascular malformations / aneurysms, hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injuries, brachial plexus and nerve surgery, spinal surgery, intervertebral disc and stenosis surgery, functional neurosurgery and epilepsy surgery. The medical Director of the Department is Prof. Dr. Marcos Tatagiba.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Tubingen is constantly developing and performs over 3,000 operations per year. It also ranks among the largest departments of neurosurgery in Germany. An experienced team of surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses and medical staff workers performs operations in five operating rooms, equipped with the most advanced facilities, including the first in Europe intraoperative MRI, which is installed on the ceiling. A very experienced team of intensive neurosurgical medicine under the direction of Prof. Dr. Marcos Tatagiba provides an optimal postoperative care in its own section with 14 beds.

The Department of Neurosurgery offers an extensive list of diagnostic and therapeutic services with due consideration of the results of the latest researches and with the use of the state-of-the-art equipment. The services include microsurgery, endoscopy, intraoperative imaging diagnosis (mobile intraoperative MRI), Doppler sonography, computerized stereotactic system, neuronavigation, surgery without anaesthesia and brain stimulation.

The Department of Neurosurgery maintains an intensive cooperation with the related disciplines at the University Hospital Tubingen, such as anaesthesia, neuroradiology, neurology, otolaryngology, cardiac and thoracic surgery and maxillofacial surgery.
