Orthopedics Clinic at Ulm University Clinic with 158 beds for surgical and conservative treatment and a center for those suffering from transverse myelitis, with daily pain clinics and orthopedic departments (X-ray, CT, MRI, laboratory, physical therapy, balneo-physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) is one of the largest orthopedic clinics in Germany and covers the entire spectrum of surgical and conservative treatments for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The main tasks of surgical care consist are the arthroscopic or open surgeries on joints, surgery with preservation of joint, joint replacement and spine surgery. The other important tasks are rheumatoorthopedic surgery, tumor surgery, orthopedic surgery for children, as well as, to a lesser extent, treatment of fractures of the spine and extremities. The computer navigation, both as an auxiliary and navigation tool is increasingly used in the clinical practice in joint replacement of hip and knee, and in spinal surgery. The hip and knee arthroplasty involves the minimally invasive techniques, as well as the bone sparing implants. The spinal surgery also increasingly uses the non-invasive methods of implantation, even with elongated spinal fusion. Clinic is a recognized center for treatment of the spine. Here, the patient is offered a comprehensive range of spine surgeries, from more intensive therapy (including the interventional infiltration therapy with shots) up to surgeries involving the segment preservation
(decompression of the intervertebral disc prosthesis) and stiffening surgeries (spinal fusion). Another important direction is surgery of the limbs with preservation of the joint, which, along with periarticular conversion surgeries and intrajoint interventions ensure the primary and secondary prevention of degenerative joint diseases, and thus contribute to avoidance or postponement of the use of stents. The number of scheduled prosthesis in the case of loosening or fracture of a bone in the presence of the implant is increasing too. We apply the most advanced auditing systems and methods for bone replacement. The conservative orthopedics acquires the increasing importance of the concept of interdisciplinary treatment. For example, the patients with chronic pain are often served in outpatient and inpatient setting, jointly with representatives of the other areas (physical medicine, psychosomatic medicine, psychiatry, pain therapy etc.)
