The Department of Gynecology, Mammology, Obstetrics and Incontinence Treatment at the Academic Hospital St. Elisabethen Lörrach offers the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services in these medical fields. Every year, the department treats more than 4,000 inpatients, performs about 2,500 surgical interventions and delivers more than 1,800 babies. The department has at its disposal 60 beds. The neonatologists and obstetricians work in close cooperation, whereas these two medical fields form the Level I Perinatal Center. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Michael Bohlmann, a competent specialist with long experience and excellent treatment results.

In the field of gynecology, the department's specialists diagnose and treat all diseases of the female reproductive organs. Of particular interest is the treatment of benign and malignant diseases, inflammatory diseases of the female reproductive system and breast diseases. In surgical treatment, the preference is always given to minimally invasive methods, which provide rapid recovery and minimal pain. The department's doctors have extensive experience in chemotherapy for cancers of the female reproductive organs.

In the field of mammology, the department provides the diagnostics and treatment of the full range of breast diseases. One of the most important focuses is breast cancer treatment. As part of the Lörrach-Rheinfelden Cancer Center, the department offers effective breast cancer treatment, which meets high international standards. The optimal treatment is selected at interdisciplinary tumor boards with the participation of gynecologists, oncologists, radiologists, radiation therapists and other necessary specialists. In particular severe clinical cases, the doctors from other medical facilities can be involved.

In addition, the department has all the modern techniques for the diagnostics and treatment of urinary incontinence. After a thorough diagnostics, each patient is prescribed an individual therapy. In 85% of cases, the correctly selected therapy helps to completely get rid of the problem or to improve the patient's condition.

The special focus of the department's work is obstetrics. This field offers high-quality medical care before, during and after childbirth. The department was awarded the title of the Level I Perinatal Center for the excellent quality of services. Its specialists have unique experience and expert knowledge for the management of high-risk pregnancies.

The department has six maternity rooms, which are made in a specific style and color scheme. Each room has a wide maternity bed, a stool, a special rope, a ball and other necessary things. Some rooms also have a water bath. The Intensive Care Unit for newborns is located in close proximity to the delivery rooms, which guarantees an immediate care to the baby. The obstetricians strongly support expectant mothers and help to select the optimal position for childbirth.
