The Department of Adult and Pediatric Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Academic Prosper-Hospital Recklinghausen offers the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services in its areas of specialization. The key attention in clinical practice is paid to surgery of the middle ear, nose, paranasal sinuses, oral cavity and pharynx, including the upper esophagus, laryngeal surgery, as well as plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the face and neck. More than 3,500 inpatients and outpatients are treated in the department annually. The department is the largest ENT Center in the northern Ruhr.

The Chief Physician of the department is Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h.c. Ralf Siegert. According to the Focus magazine, the doctor ranks among the top German specialists in the field of his competence!

One of the main focuses of the department is the treatment of tumors of the oral cavity, larynx and throat.To this end, the department has in its arsenal all modern techniques, including laser therapy, radio frequency techniques and computer-assisted surgery. The choice of the treatment method depends on the tumor location, its spread and the results of histological examination. In surgical treatment, the key focus is on the aesthetic aspect. If necessary, the surgical treatment is followed by the logopedic therapy in order to re-train speech and swallowing.

Curriculum vitae

After studying Human Medicine and Dentistry in Hamburg, Prof. Siegert worked as Research Fellow in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. This was followed by the positions of Research Fellow and Senior Physician in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital Lübeck. In 1999, Dr. Siegert held the position of Head of the Department of Adult and Pediatric Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Academic Prosper-Hospital Recklinghausen. Also, the doctor leads his private practice in Recklinghausen.

Over his 40-year career, the Professor has registered more than 40 patents in the field of medical technology, has more than 400 scientific publications, held more than 400 lectures and guest operations on four continents of the world, and also acted as the organizer and head of more than 100 educational trainings and congresses.

Dr. Siegert specializes in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the head and neck, as well as in the rehabilitation of patients with malformations of the ear. Modern surgical techniques and conservative treatment methods allow the doctor to provide patients with a decent quality of life.

In addition, the Professor is Co-Editor of such scientific journals as Laryngo-Rhino-Otologie, HNO aktuell, Journal für Ästhetische Chirurgie, Facial Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Ralf Siegert also holds various prestigious scientific awards. The main ones include the Technological Prize of the Federal State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (1997), the Poster Prize of the 10th Panhellenic Congress of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (1999), the Professor Ludwig Haymann Prize (the highest award of the German Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery) (2010), Innovation Prize of the International Association for Surgical Prosthetics and Epithetics (2010) and others.
