About the Department of Dermatology and Allergology at ATOS Clinic Heidelberg
The Department of Dermatology and Allergology at the ATOS Clinic Heidelberg offers highly accurate diagnostics and conservative and surgical treatment of the full range of skin diseases. Particular attention is paid to the prevention and treatment of skin cancer. The department also provides treatment for benign skin diseases, with an emphasis on the treatment of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, eczema, onychomycosis, and cutaneous mycosis. Another important area of work of the department's team of dermatologists is the diagnosis and treatment of skin allergic reactions. The department has the latest laser equipment, such as CO2 lasers, Nd:YAG lasers, ResurFX lasers, diode lasers, and lasers for IPL therapy. The department also has advanced equipment for photodynamic therapy. Aesthetic dermatology is well developed in the medical facility. Patients are offered treatment of wrinkles using injections of Botox, hyaluronic acid, and Radiesse, PRP therapy and mesotherapy for rejuvenation, age spot removal, hair removal, hyperhidrosis treatment, and other services. The therapeutic offer is complemented by the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins using sclerotherapy and phlebectomy. The department also provides medical care for patients with proctological diseases such as proctitis, hemorrhoids, and thrombosed hemorrhoids. The health of patients is in the safe hands of competent doctors with deep knowledge and experience in their area of specialization. The department is headed by Dr. med. Claudia Jäger.
The priority area of the department's clinical practice is the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, which is one of the most common oncological diseases in the world. The department offers skin cancer screening programs that allow for the detection of cancer at an early stage, when there is a high chance of a complete recovery. As part of the screening program, the department's specialists conduct examinations using the innovative Nevisense system. A computerized device allows for the evaluation of the structure of all moles on the body and the identification of cancer at an early stage or the exclusion of its presence.
The department has gained impressive experience in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma, a malignant skin tumor that develops from atypical cells of the basal layer of the epidermis (keratinocytes) and/or hair follicles. The department's specialists most often perform minor operations under local anesthesia to remove a malignant tumor. Such surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis without a hospital stay. To remove basal cell carcinoma in its early stages, the department successfully uses laser-assisted photodynamic therapy; surgery is not performed in such cases. Another alternative to surgery for superficial basal cell carcinoma is local treatment with ointments and creams. The course of therapy is 4-6 weeks. If clinically indicated, curettage and/or cryotherapy may also be used in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma.
The department's dermatologists see patients with benign skin conditions on an almost daily basis. Patients with psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, eczema, onychomycosis, and mycoses most often seek medical help from the department. The department's doctors prescribe pills, ointments, creams, photodynamic therapy, and laser procedures for the treatment of these dermatological diseases. The treatment regimen is developed individually, taking into account the specifics of the patient's clinical case.
The department offers a wide range of services in the field of aesthetic dermatology. The medical facility offers modern and effective skin rejuvenation procedures. The most popular are wrinkle treatment with injections of Botox, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma (PRP therapy) and Radiesse, laser treatment and IPL therapy for the removal of age spots, laser treatment for the removal of warts, moles and nevi, and mesotherapy for skin rejuvenation.
The department's team of dermatologists also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic skin lesions. The medical facility performs allergy tests and provocation tests, such as prick tests, epicutaneous tests, and RAST tests. The department offers allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT) for the treatment of allergies.
