About the department
The Department of Oncology and Alternative Medicine at the BioMed Clinic Bad Bergzabern offers comprehensive medical care for patients with various types of cancer. The medical facility uses unique treatment regimens based on conventional methods of modern medicine, complemented by various types of alternative therapy, diet therapy, physiotherapy and psychotherapy. The department also performs a large number of hyperthermia procedures (more than 14,000 annually). The department's doctors specialize in deep regional hyperthermia, whole-body hyperthermia, superficial hyperthermia, combined intracavitary chemo- and hyperthermia. The procedures involve exposure of the malignant tumor to high temperatures, reaching 41-45°C. The goal of hyperthermia is to suppress the recovery of tumor cells from damage caused by radiation and drug therapy. The department's doctors also use physiotherapy, diet therapy, psychotherapy and other techniques to activate vitality. Thus, the human body itself helps to destroy cancer cells. The department's medical team prefers an individual approach to each clinical case, therefore, each stage of treatment is determined depending on the specific diagnosis, stage of the disease, age and general condition of the patient. The department is headed by Dr. med. Fadil Brovina.
The department's doctors successfully use various methods of alternative medicine to treat cancer. This approach makes it possible to increase the efficiency of classical therapeutic procedures (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, etc.), reduce the severity of side effects of standard medical procedures, and significantly improve the quality of life of patients. In addition, such methods enhance regeneration and contribute to the normalization of metabolic processes. Upon admission to the department, the patient is assigned an individual set of therapeutic measures based on the diagnosis and general condition. The doctor tells in detail how the treatment will be carried out, and answers all questions of interest to the patient.
The department annually performs more than 14,000 hyperthermia procedures. The department has a quality certificate of the German Society for Hyperthermia, and the clinical experience of the healthcare facility in conducting this type of treatment has more than 35 years. The department offers various modifications of the therapeutic technique – deep, superficial, intraperitoneal, intravesical and intrapleural hyperthermia, as well as whole body hyperthermia. The essence of the procedure is to heat individual parts of the body, a pathological focus, or even the whole body to high temperatures of 41-45°C. This allows enhancing the effect of chemotherapy or radiation therapy by reducing the ability of cancer cells to regenerate. The procedure is carried out with the use of a special device, and its specific type, intensity and duration are determined by the attending physician. The department has 6 regional deep hyperthermia devices and also 6 whole body hyperthermia beds. Hyperthermia demonstrates excellent results in the fight against cancer, while the high competence of doctors and the availability of the high-quality equipment in the department allow maximizing the effectiveness of the procedure.
The department's medical team also specializes in mistletoe therapy, which relieves the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, strengthens the immune system, and helps to normalize the emotional state. Mistletoe extract is usually injected subcutaneously. In some cases, intravenous administration and/or administration directly to the tumor or body cavities is possible. The dosage for each patient is selected individually. In most cases, the doctor initially prescribes small doses, increasing them over time.
An important role is played by diet therapy, orthomolecular medicine, physiotherapy, magnetotherapy and other methods of alternative medicine. Group classes are often recommended for patients: qigong, meditation, Jacobson's progressive muscle relaxation method, intuitive drawing, etc. Psychological care is an integral part of the therapeutic process, since a cancer diagnosis usually causes fear, severe emotional distress and apathy, which negatively affects treatment. Experienced psychologists constantly work with patients, cheering them up for a favorable outcome of therapy and supporting them. Relatives of patients can also receive psychological services.
Patients suffering from terminal cancer receive high-quality palliative care aimed at improving their well-being and improving the quality of life. When providing palliative care, a key role is also assigned to psychological support for patients and their loved ones.
The department's therapeutic options include:
- Hyperthermia
- Deep regional hyperthermia
