The Department of Maxillofacial Surgery at the Hannover Medical School, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dr. Nils-Claudius Gellrich, encompasses all specialties of treatment, education and research in the field of maxillofacial surgery. The range of services contains the up-to-date technologies of the dental surgery, especially all techniques and methods associated with replacement of lost bone substance of the jaw and preparatory measures for the dental implantology.
The focuses of the Department are on dental and maxillofacial traumatology, treatment of complex cleft lip and palate deformities and other congenital and acquired facial pathologies, benign and malignant tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region as well as inflammatory diseases. The particular strength is a possibility of conducting precise virtual operations with the aid of computer before actual reconstruction surgeries are carried out. For this purpose, the Department has at its disposal the latest technologies of image analysis up to intraoperative navigation.
