Jürgen Klempnauer

Specialized in: general, abdominal and transplant surgery

The Department of Surgery at the Hannover Medical School, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Klempnauer, offers comprehensive surgical treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the entire abdominal cavity. The focuses of the Department are on surgical treatment of the pancreas, stomach, liver, biliary tract/gall bladder, small intestine and colon, laparoscopic, endocrine and hernia surgery, multivisceral resection, peritonectomy as well as transplantation medicine.

The medical team around Prof. Klempnauer has an exceptional qualification in the treatment of metastatic tumor diseases with peritoneal carcinomatosis (e.g., ovarian carcinoma or carcinoma of the appendix). To achieve positive results, a radical multivisceral resection as well as an additional hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are carried out. Though in the majority of cases this approach does not allow to completely heal the disease, it leads to a significant improvement of the life quality and life extension. Over the years, this treatment approach has been successfully administered in the Hannover Medical School.

The main priorities of the Department of Surgery at the Hannover Medical School are the following:

  • Esophageal surgery
  • Stomach surgery
  • Liver biliary tract / gall bladder and pancreatic surgery
  • Thin and large intestine surgery
  • Laparoscopic surgery
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Hernia surgery
  • Multivisceral resection, peritonectomy
  • Transplantation medicine (liver, kidney and pancreas)
