In early 2016, the Department was certified by the Endometriosis Research Foundation as the Center for Rehabilitation of Endometriosis.
About 10% of women of reproductive age suffer from endometriosis. Often this disease is diagnosed at very late stages or not diagnosed at all. It is characterized by the appearance of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Depending on the location and severity, endometriosis can manifest itself in a variety of symptoms. This disease is known as the chameleon of benign gynecological diseases. Chronic pain, which can require another surgery, as well as long-term hormone therapy, often last for a long time. In addition to psychological stress, endometriosis can lead to infertility. Also, patients often have problems with fatigue, exhaustion and intestinal problems. These symptoms can appear as a result of therapy.
As part of a wholesome therapeutic approach, doctors help women manage their illness and, as a result, remove physical and psychological limitations, which affects their daily lives. The goal of therapy is to ensure the fullest possible participation of women in all spheres of life and to maintain their health in the long term.
Doctors of the Department use the positive effect of sports and physical exercises to improve the mood of patients, relieve the pain and stress, improve their immune system, blood circulation and much more. Thanks to targeted physiotherapy and massages, the muscles are strengthened and tension is removed, scars and adhesions are mobilized, blood circulation is regulated, and thus the functions of internal organs (such as uterus, ovaries, bladder and bowel) improve. Rest and relaxation also give a positive effect. Further stabilization is provided by social services, as well as individual psychological discussions.
In special seminars and discussion groups, patients with endometriosis learn useful information about disease and its treatment options, learn about bladder and bowel dysfunction, what diet is the best in endometriosis, what factors keep health in check, how to remove hormonal deficiency and much more. Within the framework of treatment between women, exchange and communication are maintained.
Thus, during the treatment the mental and physical conditions of the patients improve, and resistance to the negative development of the disease is built.
This is a very delicate topic, which few talk about, but which affects several million women in Germany. It is often difficult to clearly identify the cause of the weakness of the bladder, because in most cases it develops as a combination of several disorders. The pelvis plays an important role in the development of all forms of urinary bladder incontinence.
During rehabilitation, much attention is paid to the preparation and training of the bladder and pelvis by examining the positions of lifting and carrying the pelvis.
Individual limitations of women are also studied depending on urological features. Self-education is encouraged. Women are given help in weight loss and motivation for long-term maintenance of the diet. Socio-medical and functional limitations are also taken into account.
Menopausal complaints / cycle disorders
Often after surgery, or during anti-hormonal therapy (with cancer or even endometriosis) or simply because of the biological age, women have problems with their cycle. Hot flashes, sleep disturbances, irritability and stress often disrupt their daily lives. To improve their overall well-being, comprehensive measures are taken, such as psychosocial counseling, sports activities, nutrition advice and relaxation. All this can be very useful.
Chronic gynecological pain symptoms
As part of a wholesome therapy based on a biopsychosocial model, women begin to better cope with pain and related limitations in everyday life. The goal is to ensure the fullest participation of women in all spheres of life and to maintain their health in the long term.
