The reproductologist will start from the general examination, you will undergo a number of laboratory and instrumental tests. After that, the physician will elaborate an individual treatment plan, determine the drug dosages. You will receive a detailed explanation of all the procedures and will be able to contact your physician for advice at any time.

For your convenience, we offer hotels or apartments within walking distance of the hospital. After the first appointment, you will have free time to rest. You can take the prescribed medications on your own or in the hospital. Also, several times, on the appointed days, it will be necessary to have an ultrasound scan (up to 3 times).

Stages of treatment

Ovarian stimulation. On the 2-4th day of the menstrual cycle, active stimulation of the ovaries with gonadotropins under constant ultrasound monitoring begins. It takes 10-14 days on average. An ultrasound scan is required to assess follicular growth. When the follicle is mature enough, a trigger injection is given.

The physician will appoint the day of visiting the hospital. The time of oocyte collection (puncture) is determined. 36 hours before the puncture, a woman has a stimulating (trigger) injection of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).

Egg collection. In the hospital, the follicles are punctured with the collection of mature eggs (on the 12-15 day of the menstrual cycle). The husband of the patient, on his turn, collects the ejaculate. The ejaculate can be collected naturally, or by a puncture of the testicle (in azoospermia, obstruction of the vas deferens in men – the ICSI procedure).

Fertilization. 2-6 hours after egg collection, eggs are fertilized with the husband’s sperm. This is a laboratory procedure and no patient involvement is required.

Embryo culture. Fertilized eggs will be cultured for 1-5 days. According to patients’ needs and embryo status, best 1-3 embryos can be transferred to the womb.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis. PGD is usually performed on day 3. It takes 1 day to receive the results. One or two cells from the embryo can be taken without harming it, and some genetic tests can be done in one or two days.

Embryo transfer. This procedure is painless and no anesthesia is required, although some patients need sedation. One hour after the procedure, patients can leave the hospital and can return home on the same day.

Pregnancy test. This test can be done 14 days after the embryo transfer.

About the department

The Department of Reproductive Medicine at the Primus Super Speciality Hospital New Delhi offers all the modern options for the diagnostics and treatment of infertility in men and women. The department has state-of-the-art equipment and techniques, such as intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI), CASA computer system, Polscope technology, embryoscopy and many others. The department's reproductologists regularly demonstrate excellent results in IVF procedure. The department is headed by Dr. med. R.K. Sharma.

To diagnose reproductive function in women, the department carries out hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and ultrasound scan. The reproductive potential of men is assessed using spermogram. After receiving the examination results, the department's doctors develop an individual treatment regimen for each patient. There are used many different treatment methods, ranging from simple to the most advanced ones.

Hormone therapy is an effective therapeutic technique for hormonal disorders. Drug treatment corrects ovarian function in the case of reduction of the production of mature eggs and suppressing ovulation. Another effective treatment is intrauterine insemination (IUI). The pretreated sperm is injected directly into the uterus through a small catheter. The purpose of IUI is to increase the number of high-quality sperm, which can reach the fallopian tubes and fertilize the egg. As a rule, IUI is prescribed in infertility of unknown origin, decreased number of sperm, impaired sperm motility and ejaculation.

The department's specialists successfully perform the IVF procedure, which is the most common method of infertility treatment. The treatment involves the hormonal stimulation of the woman's ovaries, after which the doctor extracts eggs suitable for fertilization. The obtained eggs are fertilized by the partner's sperm in the laboratory, after which the embryos will be implanted in the uterine cavity. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an effective part of the IVF procedure. In addition, the department's doctors have experience using PICSI technique, which increases the chance of pregnancy and reduces the number of miscarriages in IVF. To detect genetic malformations in embryos obtained during IVF, the department performs a preliminary genetic screening.

The department also offers surrogacy, which for some couples may be the only way to become parents. Other medical services include sperm, egg and embryo donation, germ cell cryopreservation, fertility enhancement surgery and surgical sperm extraction.

The department's range of medical services includes:

  • Intrauterine insemination
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • ICSI technique (intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
  • PICSI technique (physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection)
  • Sperm donation
  • Egg donation
  • Embryo donation
  • Germ cell cryopreservation
  • Surgical sperm extraction (minimally invasive interventions)
    • TESE (testicular sperm extraction)
    • PESA (percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration)
    • MESA (microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration)
  • Other medical services
