The Department of Hematology at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center under the direction of Prof. Irit Avivi provides expert care for patients with a variety of blood disorders, including malignant hematological diseases, such as acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), multiple myeloma, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, as well as benign blood diseases (anemias and coagulation disorders). The Department is affiliated with the Sackler Faculty of Medicine of the Tel Aviv University for leading-edge scientific and clinical research and ongoing medical education. The Department of Hematology also offers bone marrow transplantation.
The Department of Hematology at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, headed by Prof. Irit Avivi, offers both inpatient and outpatient care. The inpatient treatment is mostly prescribed to patients with malignant blood disorders requiring intensive chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation. These include acute leukemias (AML and ALL), aggressive lymphomas, Hodgkin's disease and multiple myeloma. The treatment options for the above-mentioned conditions are the latest chemotherapies, experimental chemotherapies for patients with refractory disease and stem cell transplantation (autologous or allogeneic).
Most patients are treated in single rooms equipped with HEPA filters for cleansing the air and reducing the incidence of infections, as well as in the intensive care unit.
A multidisciplinary medical team under the direction of Prof. Irit Avivi comprises hematologists, transplant specialists, nurses, infectious disease specialists, dieticians, psychologists, music therapists and social workers. They all work for the benefit of their patients to ensure the highest quality of medical care and achieve optimal treatment results. The nursing staff of the Department of Hematology at the Sourasky Medical Center is also highly professional and regularly receives refresher courses.
