The Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital Bonn covers the entire spectrum of oral, maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery. The range of provided services covers dental surgery, treatment of head and neck injuries as well as skull base fractures, surgery for jaw deformities (dysgnathia) and surgical treatment of thyroid. The Department is headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Rudolf H. Reich. The Department is distinguished due to its special experience in the treatment of head and neck tumors as well as in plastic, reconstructive, including aesthetic head and neck surgery. 

Moreover, the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital Bonn specializes in diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the temporomandibular joint. There is provided the entire spectrum of surgical services ranging from arthroscopy and up to the replacement of the temporomandibular joint with an individually manufactured endoprosthesis. The Department under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Rudolf H. Reich offers a wide range of surgical techniques for the patients with facial nerve paralysis. These techniques enable a reconstruction of the paralyzed face. 

The Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital Bonn has a unique long experience of surgical treatment for cleft lip, jaw and palate, skull abnormalities, such as craniostenosis (e.g. trigonocephaly, plagiocephaly). There is also implant treatment for the restoration of an optimal chewing function. It is possible to make a sufficient thickness of the bone tissue with the use of various bone grafts and complex jaw augmentation techniques (distraction). The specialists of the Department also provide tooth removal and rehabilitation in patients with special medical risks as well as treat inflammations both inside and outside the oral cavity.
