Located at the Campus Virchow-Klinikum, the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at the University Hospital Charite treats children with malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system, benign and malignant tumors, non-malignant diseases, congenital or acquired blood diseases and bleeding disorders. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Angelika Eggert.
The activities of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology are aimed at the mutual work with doctors from all medical fields and interdisciplinary cooperation to improve work in the areas of diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, rehabilitation and understanding of the mechanisms of disease development. 120 children with the newly diagnosed malignant disease and 25 those with its relapse are treated here every year. Besides, the department annually performs about 40-50 stem cell transplants.
