As one of the largest neurosurgical centers of Europe, the Department of Neurosurgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital covers the full range of diseases of the peripheral and central nervous system. Annually, there are performed over 3000 operations in four state-of-the-art operating rooms.

The exceptional technical equipment of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital as well as perfect interaction of the multiprofessional team under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Unterberg are necessary preconditions for the maximally safe and effective operations. The doctors of the Department have expert knowledge and experience in surgery of brain and spine, deep brain stimulation and other stereotactic operations. They are also experienced in intensive neurosurgical care and work hand in hand to provide an optimal treatment outcome.

Furhtermore, as an important part of the neurocenter of the Department of Head, the Department of Neurosurgery at the Heidelberg University Hospital cooperates closely with the neighboring specialized department of the Heidelberg University. The Department maintains the closest collaboration with two internationally recognized research centers: National Cancer Center (NCT) and German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).

Accommodation in hospital

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
