As a part of the Department of Head, the Department of Neurology at the Heidelberg University Hospital maintains close cooperation with the Department of Neuroradiology as well as with the Department of Neurosurgery and forms the Neurology Center with these departments. The Department covers the entire spectrum of all neurological diseases. The main areas of specialization of the Department include brain tumors, stroke, chronic inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system, movement disorders, epilepsies, headaches and diseases of the peripheral nervous system.

The Department of Neurology at the Heidelberg University Hospital has one intensive care unit, stroke unit, which is the largest in Europe, and intensive monitoring unit as well as three general units. Moreover, outpatients are treated in various outpatient units and in the private outpatient unit. The emergency unit works around the clock as well. Due to theses resources, the Department treats about 6,000 inpatients and 15,000 outpatients and supervises a number of scientific projects.

The priority focuses of the clinical specialization of the Department of Neurology at the Heidelberg University Hospital under the direction of Prof. Dr. Wofgang Wick include:

Accommodation in hospital

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
