The Department of Gastroenterology at the University Hospital Jena under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Stallmach is focused on the patients with gastrointestinal complaints and diseases of the entire gastrointestinal tract ranging from the esophagus and up to the rectum, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and biliary tract. In addition, in cooperation with the Center for Infectious Medicine, the department treats patients suffering from acute and chronic infections.
The hepatologists of the department primarily specialize in the treatment of severely ill patients with liver diseases and their complications. Thanks to booth special expertise and experience, the medical team of the department can achieve a noticeable improvement in severe cases of the disease. The department treats more than 1,000 patients with hepatological conditions every year.
