The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Jena, under the lead of Prof. Dr. med. Rolf Kalff, has the latest technical equipment, which allows to perform all highly qualified operations associated with neurosurgery.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Jena, under the lead of Prof. Dr. med. Rolf Kalff, offers diagnosis and operative treatment options of the following diseases:

  • Brain (brain tumor, aneurysm, traumatic brain injury)
  • Spine (spinal stenosis, vertebral fracture), spinal cord, intervertebral disc (herniated disc, intervertebral disc prosthesis, endoscopic surgeries on the disc)
  • Nerves (carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, plexus damage)
  • Functional neurosurgery (pain therapy, spinal cord stimulation, trigeminal nerve neuralgia, deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease)
  • Pediatric (children's) neurosurgery

The expert team of the department performs all operations after a precise patient examination and exact diagnosis with the use of the latest operation techniques. Being the University Hospital and member of the Center for Brain Tumors as well as of the Spinal Cord Center Thuringia the department provides patients with interdisciplinary treatment, ensuring the most optimal treatment possible.

The patient is accommodated in a modern building, accompanied by a friendly staff in bright single or double bed rooms. The medical team of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Jena, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Rolf Kalff, offers extensive experience, individual therapy planning and conscientious aftercare for outpatients instead of a simple "conveyer surgery."

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
