The Department of General, Visceral, Vascular and Pediatric Surgery (Surgical Clinic I) offers a full range of general and visceral surgery services. Besides, there are two special departments for vascular surgery and pediatric surgery. The department offers all surgeries at the highest level. The clinic is equipped with modern central operating rooms, has a surgical intensive care unit and a separate department for intermediate care (when transferring the patient from the ICU to normal ward). The surgical outpatient clinic offers a special consultation, and has its own surgical endoscopy unit. Surgical Clinic I is on the list of the recommended specialized clinics for treatment of bowel cancer according to the list of the best medical institutions compiled by FOCUS for 2016.

The main areas of service in the Department of General, Visceral, Vascular and Pediatric Surgery are the surgery of aortic aneurysm, open and endovascular surgery of vessels, conservative treatment of diseases of the arteries, diagnostics and treatment of venous diseases and their complications, endocrine surgery, surgery of the stomach and intestines, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, tumor surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, weight loss, shunt for dialysis, implantation of the port system and the surgical intensive care unit.

About hospital

University Hospital Wurzburg includes 19 departments with outpatient clinics, three independent clinics and four clinical institutions. It also comprises four experimentally-oriented institutes, or departments. The hospital is ranked 8th in the top list of the best medical institutions recommended by FOCUS in 2016.

Each year, approximately 57,000 patients receive qualified treatment in the hospital, and approximately 235,000 patients undergo outpatient treatment. The number of beds is 1430. Almost 40 clinical centers and numerous special consultation offices focus on the interdisciplinary and wide-ranging cooperation in the region.

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
