About the department
The Department of Vascular Medicine at the Vivantes Humboldt Hospital treats diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels. Experts of the department specialize in conservative and surgical treatment methods of vascular medicine, as well as catheter therapy. The head of the department is Prof. Dr. Carsten Bünger.
The Department of Vascular Medicine treats arterial diseases, for example, aortic aneurysms. It also treats accumulation and calcification of the pelvic arteries and lower extremities and stenosis of the neck arteries. The spectrum of treatment extends from drug treatment, surgical interventions (for example, balloon catheter stretching or stent implantation) - up to operational reconstruction and improvement of blood circulation through enucleation and shunting. In addition, the task area of the department also includes treatment of venous diseases, for example, varicose veins and thrombosis.

An academic clinic of the university medical complex Charité, the Vivantes Humboldt Hospital is one of the largest specialized medical institutions in Berlin.
