About the department
The Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the Eichsfeld Hospital Heilbad Heiligenstadt offers the full range of medical services for young patients. The department admits children of various age groups, ranging from premature newborns, born from 32 weeks of pregnancy and weighing up to 1500 g, to young children and adolescents under the age of 18 years. Pediatricians deal with the treatment of pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, ENT organs and other disorders. The department is equipped with modern diagnostic rooms, in which various studies are carried out to assess the child's condition. The department provides medical care to more than 2,100 children every year, which testifies to the credibility of the pediatric medical facility. The department is awarded with Ausgezeichnet. FÜR KINDER! certificate, so young patients and their parents can be sure that medical care is provided in compliance with current clinical protocols and recommendations of professional European societies. The department is headed by Dr. med. Oliver Möller.
The department has an excellent medical and technical base: 22 beds for the hospitalization of young patients, 4 intensive care units for newborns (including premature babies) with monitoring systems and artificial ventilation devices, an emergency unit, a sleep laboratory, diagnostic rooms with devices for electroencephalography, ultrasound examinations, electrocardiography, color Doppler echocardiography, bronchoscopy, body plethysmography, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and other diagnostic procedures. All these resources make it possible to comprehensively assess the state of the child's health and, if necessary, provide him with effective treatment.
One of the most important areas of clinical activity of the department's pediatricians is the diagnostics and treatment of respiratory diseases in children: bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis, acute respiratory infections, sleep-related breathing disorders. To accurately diagnose the above-mentioned pathologies, doctors use such examinations as radiography, body plethysmography, bronchoscopy, laboratory tests. After studying the preliminary examination results, the attending physician prescribes pharmacotherapy, and in some cases, some physiotherapeutic treatments (for example, inhalation, electrophoresis, etc.).
Pediatric cardiologists specialize in echocardiography, electrocardiography in children, as well as 24-hour blood pressure monitoring in young patients. If a child is diagnosed with congenital or acquired heart defects, heart failure, rhythm and conduction disturbances, cardiomyopathies, arterial hypertension and other cardiac pathologies, the attending physician determines further therapeutic measures. The competence of the department's team of doctors includes conservative treatment with the help of modern medicines.
The department's therapeutic offer is complemented by pediatric gastroenterology. The specialists in this field deal with the diagnostics and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. The department's clinical practice mostly focuses on pathologies as inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), celiac disease, gastritis, gastroduodenitis, colitis, stomach and intestinal ulcers, pancreatitis, biliary dyskinesia, etc. In the course of diagnostics, ultrasound examinations, endoscopic procedures (gastroscopy, colonoscopy), various laboratory tests are used. To eliminate the pathology of the digestive system and normalize the child's health, the diet is adjusted, and an individual pharmacotherapy regimen is prescribed.
