Location

Pinneberg is a town in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, in Germany. Pinneberg is located near Hamburg, which is one of the largest port cities in the country. In contrast to the vibrant life in Hamburg, Pinneberg offers peace and solitude.

Pinneberg and its surroundings are famous for a huge variety of flower and tree nurseries. People grow here roses, acacias, conifers and many other plants, most of which are exported outside of Schleswig-Holstein. The flower industry was initiated by Baron Caspar von Voght, who ordered plant gardens near the city back in the 18th century. Over time, this craft became a symbol of Pinneberg, and it is still thriving here to the present days.

The town cannot boast of an abundance of attractions, but it still has interesting places to visit. The main attraction of Pinneberg is the Drostei Palace – a striking example of secular Baroque architecture. To get acquainted with the history of the town, tourists go to the Town Museum. The very heart of the town is its central square with many beautiful buildings. According to German traditions, the central square houses the Town Hall. Walking around Pinneberg, one can see many well-preserved beautiful old houses.

The town is famous for the annual Summer Jazz Festival, which is held here at the end of the second week of August. An annual Wine Festival is held in Pinneberg in early July. The town also regularly hosts the "Wake Up PI" rock festival, which attracts rock fans from different parts of Germany.
