About the department
The Department of Adult and Pediatric Anesthesiology, Intensive Care at the Academic Hospital St. Elisabethen Lörrach offers the full range of services in these medical fields. The medical team provides safe anesthesia for patients of any age: infants, children, adolescents and adults. There are selected the optimal methods of anesthesia, which ensure the absence of pain during surgery and minimal pain after it. The department provides its services to 7,500 patients annually. The department is headed by Dr. med. Walter Heindl.
The department offers all modern methods of anesthesia, including epidural anesthesia during childbirth. For postoperative pain therapy, the appropriate medicines, suppositories and drops are used. In severe pains, the doctors can also provide infusion therapy, including the injection of painkillers through a catheter or an infusion pump (pump).
After extensive surgeries, for example, in acute diseases (heart attack, pulmonary embolism, seizures, vascular crisis), patients are transferred to the Intermediate Care Station. This station is equipped with the state-of-the-art monitoring systems, which allow to provide a thorough monitoring of the patient's condition.
Intensive care is provided by the specially trained doctors who work here around the clock.
